The Clonable Translations API connects your content to the Clonable platform, using the translation rules you manage in your dashboard. It supports plain text, complex HTML and combinations of HTML and JSON, with central control over how your content is translated.Supported content#
The API translates structured content while preserving its surrounding structure and markup. You can work with existing content without first converting it to plain text.Supported content includes:Nested HTML elements: Structures with multiple levels of nested elements.
Formatted content: Paragraphs, lists, bold and italic text, and other inline formatting.
HTML links: Translates link text and surrounding content while preserving the link markup.
Custom or unusual markup: HTML structures and formatting specific to your website.
HTML containing JSON: HTML content with embedded JSON objects.
JSON containing HTML: JSON objects with HTML content inside their values.
Page-builder content: Deeply nested elements, extensive formatting and complex generated markup.
HTML does not need to be neatly structured. The API also handles page-builder content whose underlying markup is difficult to read or maintain, without requiring you to strip out that markup before translation.Translation rules#
Your Clonable dashboard is the central place to manage how your content is translated. The API uses all configured translation rules, including:These settings let you manage translation choices in one place as you expand your content into more languages.Identical translations and updates#
Identical translations are processed only once. When the same translation is requested again, Clonable reuses the existing translation. If a Clonable feature, such as a translation replacement, modifies an existing translation, the next API request for the same text returns the updated result. You manage the change in Clonable and retrieve the current translation through the API.Availability, usage and access#
The Translations API is available on all Clonable plans. API usage is counted as a page under /clonable-api/ in your usage settings.Clonable reserves the right to disable API access for your account.Endpoints#
